Where does freedom come from ---government, oneself, circumstances?

John 8:31-32 states: So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you abide in My Word you are truly my disciples and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”

True freedom comes from the God of Truth and not circumstances, not living to please ourselves, and not the government. God has been speaking through Rich to us about how we are trapped, bound, and enslaved by the “voices that we listen to.”

These voices echo in the chambers of our soul and keep us from experiencing the peace, joy and love that Christ promises His children.

Acknowledging the daily struggle as we long to silence the voices of accusation, condemnation, shame, the pains of our past/present and the anxiety, fears, and frustrations of the present/future is only the first step towards freedom.

In my own life I have and still battle the voices. But I’m experiencing victory as I replace the lies with the truth. It’s hard work to reprogram my mind (2 Corinthians 10:5). The battleground between the Father of Lies (Satan) and the God of Truth (Jesus) is in our minds. Fortunately for us in this country we have unlimited access to the Word of God, which is our weapon of offense along with prayer (see Ephesians 6: 10-18). Let’s not forget to use it!

For years I battled with feeling insecure, unloved, rejected and unworthy. I’m so thankful that through memorizing, meditating and praying Scripture related to God’s love (I’d be happy to share my list) Jesus has poured out His love into my heart and it overflows with His love for others. Currently, God’s helping me and replacing my anxiety with His peace.

As you celebrate July 4th and the freedom that we experience here in the USA because of the brave sacrifice of others, let’s not forgot Jesus and the freedoms that He purchased for us through His blood poured out freely for us on the cross.

Peace, joy and love be yours in abundance,

Angie Chan
