Why Jesus?

For approximately 2,000 years the name of Jesus has made a difference in people’s lives. Jesus is more than a name in a history book. Jesus is so much more than a name mentioned at a wedding or a name said in anger. Jesus said he was God. Years ago a highly educated man at a party approached me, and after finding out that I was a pastor began to tell me that Jesus never existed. This man is entitled to his opinion however to say that a man named Jesus never walked this earth is ludicrous. Since a man named Jesus did walk this earth and did make some incredible claims one must then ask the questions, who is this Jesus, and if he is who he says he is then why would I need him in my life.

The God of the universe, the one who created the heavens and the earth, the God who created you is radically and passionately in love with you. He wants the best for you in this life which will affect your eternal destiny. He desperately wants to have a personal relationship with you.

JOHN 3:16-17 (THE MESSAGE)

16 “This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.  17 God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again.

JESUS CAME TO DIE FOR US.

Jesus said he was God. Out of his love for people (you) he not only told people about his love but he demonstrated that love in action. Jesus died for our sins on a cross. Jesus paid the penalty for our sins. (All the things we have done wrong) Jesus did this out of love in order that we would be free in this life and for eternity. Our sins have separated us from God. Sin is serious business to God. No matter how hard we try to be good and do the right things we will still sin. The consequences of sin are eternal death, a Christ-less eternity. Jesus died for our sins. We can be forgiven of our sins. (No matter what you have done) We can stand before God, because of Jesus and be free for today and forever. Our sins must be forgiven. God’s gift to you is forgiveness.

ROMANS 3:23 (NEW LIVING TRANSLATION)

23 For all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

ROMANS 6:23 (THE MESSAGE)

23 Work hard for sin your whole life and your pension is death. But God’s gift is real life, eternal life, delivered by Jesus, our Master.

JESUS CAME TO SAVE US.

Jesus the son of the living God, God in the flesh is the only way to God. This is God’s grace. He is a merciful God. Jesus not only died on a cross but he rose from the dead three days later as the bible says. Jesus is alive, Jesus conquered death. This is why it is called the good news! There is nothing you can do to earn God’s love and grace. It is free. You must accept the gift. It is your choice.

JOHN 14:6 (THE MESSAGE)

6 Jesus said, “I am the Road, also the Truth, also the Life. No one gets to the Father apart from me.

ROMANS 10:9 (NEW LIVING TRANSLATION)

9 For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

JESUS SETS US FREE TODAY AND FOREVER.

Knowing these facts about Jesus is not enough. Every person must ask Jesus to forgive them of their sins. When we confess our sins to God we are simply saying that we will turn from them and begin to live God’s ways. This is an act of faith. This is the first step in trusting God. God will change your heart and this will affect your life today and forever.

EPHESIANS 2:8-9 (THE MESSAGE)

8 Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to finish!  9 We don’t play the major role. If we did, we’d probably go around bragging that we’d done the whole thing!

2 CORINTHIANS 5:17 (NEW LIVING TRANSLATION)

17 What this means is that those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun!

1 JOHN 1:9 (NEW LIVING TRANSLATION)

9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong.

JESUS IS REAL LIFE.

JESUS WANTS TO BE INVITED INTO YOUR LIFE TODAY.

JOHN 1:12 (NEW LIVING TRANSLATION)

12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.

HERE IS AN EASY PRAYER THAT WILL GET YOU STARTED IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS:

Jesus I want to know you. I want to have a relationship with you. I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life. (You may at this time want to name a few) Please forgive me. Thank you for dying in my place on the cross, for my sins. Thank you for the gift of eternal life that not only affects my eternal destiny but affects how I will live my life starting today. Help me follow your ways because this is new to me. Thank you for coming into my life.

Thank you, Jesus. Amen

YOU HAVE BEGUN AN INCREDIBLE JOURNEY WITH GOD. THE GREATEST DECISION YOU COULD EVER MAKE.

Some suggestions:

  • Go and tell a friend what you have done. In fact let us know on our website or call us.

  • Get together with a pastor or a Christian (a follower of Jesus) and spend time with them.

  • Read and study God’s word, the bible. The book of John is a great place to start. It tells about the life of Jesus.

  • Pray to God. This is simply talking to God aloud or silently. Tell God how you feel and what is on your mind. Relationships grow through conversation.

  • Attend a Christian church that teaches about Jesus Christ being the son of God who died and raised from the dead for our sins. The church is your spiritual family. You will need the support and encouragement of others in your faith.
